Our Advent calendar shows the main square of Linz, which has been one of the largest converted squares in Europe since the 13th century. In its centre stands the 20-metre-high Trinity Column, built in 1723. The Linzer Torte, which of course comes out of one of the 24 windows, is said to be the oldest known cake recipe in the world. Linz is situated on the Danube and was chosen as the Capital of Culture in 2009 together with Vilnius.
